CADENA PERPETUA (The Shawshank Redemption)

El título original de esta película es The Shawshank Redemption. Shawshank es el nombre ficticio que se le dió a la cárcel estatal en Maine (Estado de Nueva Inglaterra, USA).

Shawshank, a secas, no significa nada, pero "shank", entre otras acepciones, tiene la de pierna o pata. La expresión humorística "on shank´s pony / mare (yegua) significa "en el coche de San Fernando: un rato a pie y otro andando".

El film está basado en la novela de Stephen King: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (el poster que Dufresne utiliza en la película para "tapar" su libertad muestra, en blanco y negro, a la famosa Hayworth en Gilda).

El video narra la escena en la que Andy (Tim Robbins) regala a sus compañeros un momento musical inolvidable. Atentos al acento americano. Tenéis algo de vocabulario tras la transcripción.

I have no idea to this state what those two italian ladies were singing about. To this, I don´t wanna know. Some things are best left unsaid. I like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can´t be expressed in words and makes your heart beat because of it.
I tell you those voices soared higher and further than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our humdrum cage and made those walls disolve away and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free. It pissed the guard enough sound awful .
